Add Footnotes<\/h1>\nTo create a footnote in your book, open the visual editor for a chapter where you'd like to create a new footnote:\n

  1. Place your cursor where you want your footnote marker to appear<\/li>\n \t
  2. Click the \"FN<\/strong>\" button in the visual editor\n\"\"<\/li>\n \t
  3. Enter your desired footnote content in the 'Footnote Content' window which appears and Click 'OK'.\n\"\"<\/li>\n \t
  4. A footnote shortcode will be inserted in the location you have selected.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Choose Where To Display Footnotes in PDF Exports<\/h1>\nIn your webbook and ebook exports, footnotes are always displayed at the end of the chapter. In PDF output you can choose to display footnotes at true footnotes (text is rendered at the bottom of the page where the footnote marker occurs) or as chapter endnotes (note content is rendered in sequential order at the end of the chapter). Pressbooks does not <\/span>currently support the creation of end-of-book endnotes.\n\nTo set your footnote options for PDF:\n

    1. Click 'Appearance -> Theme Options<\/strong>' and select the PDF Options<\/strong> tab<\/li>\n \t
    2. Select the relevant option from the 'Footnotes Style' setting<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Convert Footnotes from Imported Documents<\/h1>\nPressbooks can also automatically convert your Microsoft Word or Open Office footnotes or chapter endnotes for you.\n
      NOTE:<\/strong> If your Word or Open Office doc has footnotes\/endnotes, you must do this conversion, otherwise the footnote\/endnote code will generate errors in EPUB outputs, and will not link properly in PDF and Web outputs.<\/div>\nTo convert MS Word\/Open Office footnotes\/endnotes:\n

The conversion process produces an ellipses (...) at the bottom of the chapter for each converted footnote. These should be manually deleted before save.\n
