In this chapter we will cover:\n<ul>\n \t<li><a href=\"#selectcontentforexport\">Selecting Content for Export<\/a><\/li>\n \t<li><a href=\"#exportyourbookfiles\">Exporting your Book Files<\/a><\/li>\n \t<li><a href=\"#viewingexports\">Viewing Your Latest Exports<\/a><\/li>\n \t<li><a href=\"#upgradeyourbookfiles\">Upgrade your Book Files<\/a><\/li>\n \t<li><a href=\"#webdistributionofexportedfiles\">Distributing Your Exported Files on the Web<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h1><a id=\"selectcontentforexport\" href=\"\"><\/a>Select Content for Export<\/h1>\nNot all content in your book in Pressbooks has to be included in your exported files.\u00a0You can decide which chapters, front matter, and back matter you\u2019d like to be included in your exported files from the <strong>Organize<\/strong> page:\n<ol>\n \t<li>Go to <strong>Organize<\/strong> from the left sidebar menu in Pressbooks.<\/li>\n \t<li>Find the \u201c<strong>Show in Exports<\/strong>\u201d column at the top of a section.<\/li>\n \t<li><strong>Select the box in this column<\/strong> for each chapter you wish to include in your exported files.<\/li>\n \t<li>You can also click the \u201cShow in Exports\u201d text at the top of a column to bulk select or deselect all chapters in a particular part or section.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nChapters will generally be included in exports by default. You can tell that a chapter has been selected to Show in Exports when a checkmark appears. For authors who want to distribute their book, the most commonly used exports are\n<ul>\n \t<li><strong>Print PDF:<\/strong> Print PDF files are the format you should select if you plan to make a printed, physical copy of your book. This file meets the requirements of printers and print-on-demand services.<\/li>\n \t<li><strong>Digital PDF:<\/strong> Digital PDF files are useful if you want to distribute your book as a digital file, but do not intend to print\u00a0 the file. Digital PDFs are optimized for accessibility, contain hyperlinks for easier navigation, and can be used online.<\/li>\n \t<li><strong>EPUB:<\/strong> EPUB files can be submitted to any popular ebook distributor and opened by most modern ebook readers. This is the file you\u2019d use to submit your ebook to Kobo, Nook, iBooks, Amazon, and others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nIn addition to these export formats, Pressbooks allows you to produce exports in a variety of other format, some of which are experimental. The full list of available file export options includes XML, EPUB 3, XHTML, HTMLBook, OpenDocument, and Common Cartridge.\n<div class=\"textbox\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> Pressbooks cannot guarantee that file exports produced in any of the formats listed in the 'Other formats' column will be valid and fully functional.<\/div>\n<h1>Export your Book as as Pressbooks XML file<\/h1>\nThe Pressbooks XML format is a particularly useful format if you'd like to move all or part of your book from one Pressbooks network to another, or to combine parts of multiple books into a new book. To produce a Pressbooks XML file <a href=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/guide\/chapter\/bring-your-content-into-pressbooks\/#chapter-156-section-4\">for import into another book<\/a>:\n<ol>\n \t<li>Login to the book you'd like to move to another location and click '<strong>Export<\/strong>' in the book's admin dashboard.<\/li>\n \t<li>Select '<strong>Pressbooks XML<\/strong>' from the Export Options menu<\/li>\n \t<li>Click the '<strong>Export Your Book<\/strong>' button.<\/li>\n \t<li>Hover over the XML file in the Latest Exports list and click '<strong>Download<\/strong>' to download this file to your computer\n<img class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3513\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4748\/2022\/10\/Screenshot-from-2021-10-05-18-05-58.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"554\" height=\"225\"><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h1>Export Your Book as a Common Cartridge File<\/h1>\nPressbooks allows you to produce Common Cartridge exports with weblinks. Common Cartridge is an standard developed by IMS Global to define interoperable packages for use in Learning Management Systems [LMS]. The Common Cartridge with Web Links export produced by Pressbooks can be used to quickly import each chapter of a public book into a course in your LMS as an external link. To produce a Common Cartridge file for import into a LMS:\n<ol>\n \t<li>Click '<strong>Export<\/strong>' in your book's admin dashboard.<\/li>\n \t<li>Select\u00a0<strong>Common Cartridge with Web Links <\/strong>from the Export Options panel<\/li>\n \t<li>Click the '<strong>Export Your Book<\/strong>' button and wait for the file to appear in your list of 'latest exports'.<\/li>\n \t<li>Hover over the IMSCC file in the Latest Exports list and click 'Download'<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nThe process of importing a Common Cartridge file to your course will differ depending on your LMS. When successfully exported, the files will appear underneath \u201cLatest Exports.\u201d Pressbooks keeps the last 3 files exported of each format.\n\n<strong>Download:<\/strong> To download an exported file, hover over the file name and click the \u201cDownload\u201d link that appears.\n\n<strong>Delete:<\/strong> To delete an exported file, hover over the file name and click the \u201cDelete\u201d link that appears.\n\nYou can also delete files in bulk by following these steps:\n<ol>\n \t<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n \t<li>Select the box to the left of the files you\u2019d like to delete, or select the box at the top left of the table to select all files for deletion<\/li>\n \t<li>Click the <strong>Bulk Actions<\/strong> dropdown menu at the top or bottom of the table and select <strong>Delete.<\/strong><\/li>\n \t<li>Click <strong>Apply.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<strong>Pin:<\/strong> You can pin a file in your Latest Exports table to prevent the file from being deleted and allow you to find it more quickly in the future.\u00a0To do so, select the box in the \u201cPin\u201d column for the file you wish to save.\n\n<img class=\"alignnone wp-image-89 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4748\/2022\/10\/Screen-Shot-2021-07-26-at-9.00.38-AM.png\" alt=\"The exported file manager\" width=\"2985\" height=\"587\">\n\nYou can 'pin' up to 3 files of one single file type, and 5 exported files in total. If you\u2019ve pinned three files of a given export type and then try to export a new file of that format, you\u2019ll see an error message asking you to deselect one of your pinned files before attempting to export again.\n\n<strong>Adjust Table Settings:<\/strong> By default, the Export table will show you all the files you\u2019ve exported. If you\u2019d rather your files display in a shorter table with navigable pages, you can adjust the table settings to display fewer rows with the <strong>Screen Options<\/strong> setting available at the top of the page.\n\n<strong>Sort:<\/strong> You can organize your files by file name, format, size, pinned status, or date by clicking the links for those terms available at the top or bottom of the table.\n<div class=\"textbox shaded\">\n\n<strong>Note: <\/strong>On Pressbooks.pub only, all exported books will include a Pressbooks promotional watermark until the book has been upgraded. Once you upgrade, you can still re-export your files. See our <a href=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/guide\/chapter\/upgrade-your-pressbooks-pub-book\/\">guide to Upgrading your Pressbooks.pub book<\/a> for more details.\n\n<\/div>\n<h1><a id=\"webdistributionofexportedfiles\" href=\"\"><\/a>Distributing Your Exported Files on the Web<\/h1>\n<div class=\"textbox shaded\"><strong>Note:\u00a0<\/strong>Enabling downloads of your book export files on the Pressbooks.pub network requires that your book be <a href=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/guide\/chapter\/upgrade-your-pressbooks-pub-book\/\">upgraded to the Collaboration plan<\/a>.<\/div>\nTo enable public downloads of your exported files directly from your webbook home page:\n<ol>\n \t<li>Go to <strong>Settings &gt; Sharing &amp; Privacy<\/strong> from the left sidebar menu in Pressbooks.<\/li>\n \t<li>Find the setting titled \u201cShare Latest Export Files\u201d and select \u201c<strong>Yes. I would like the latest export files to be available on the homepage for free, to everyone.<\/strong>\u201d<\/li>\n \t<li>Click <strong>Save Changes.\n<img class=\"size-full wp-image-2972\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4748\/2022\/10\/Screenshot-from-2020-09-11-21-23-45.png\" alt=\"Share Latest Export Files option in Pressbooks\" width=\"1013\" height=\"135\">\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\nTurning on the \u201cShare Latest Export Files\u201d option will enable the feature on your book, but files won\u2019t appear on your book's homepage until you have produced at least one export using the steps described earlier in this chapter.\n\nThe most recently produced version of each file format that appears in your Latest Exports section will be made available for download from your books' homepage. See our <a href=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/guide\/chapter\/upgrade-your-pressbooks-pub-book\/\">guide to Upgrading your Pressbooks.pub book<\/a> for more details.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h1><a id=\"webdistributionofexportedfiles\" href=\"\"><\/a>Distributing Your Exported Files on the Web<\/h1>\n<div class=\"textbox shaded\"><strong>Note:\u00a0<\/strong>Enabling downloads of your book export files on the Pressbooks.pub network requires that your book be <a href=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/guide\/chapter\/upgrade-your-pressbooks-pub-book\/\">upgraded to the Collaboration plan<\/a>.<\/div>\n<p>To enable public downloads of your exported files directly from your webbook home page:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to <strong>Settings &gt; Sharing &amp; Privacy<\/strong> from the left sidebar menu in Pressbooks.<\/li>\n<li>Find the setting titled \u201cShare Latest Export Files\u201d and select \u201c<strong>Yes. I would like the latest export files to be available on the homepage for free, to everyone.<\/strong>\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Save Changes.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2972\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4748\/2022\/10\/Screenshot-from-2020-09-11-21-23-45.png\" alt=\"Share Latest Export Files option in Pressbooks\" width=\"1013\" height=\"135\" \/><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Turning on the \u201cShare Latest Export Files\u201d option will enable the feature on your book, but files won\u2019t appear on your book&#8217;s homepage until you have produced at least one export using the steps described earlier in this chapter.<\/p>\n<p>The most recently produced version of each file format that appears in your Latest Exports section will be made available for download from your books&#8217; homepage.
