With our self-service software, create the reader-ready PDFs required by print and print-on-demand distribution services, and the EPUB or MOBI files necessary to distribute with ebook stores like Kindle, Nook, and more.\n\nIn this chapter we will cover:\n<ul>\n \t<li><a href=\"#choosetherightformat\">Choosing the Right Format<\/a><\/li>\n \t<li><a href=\"#selectcontentforexport\">Selecting Content for Export<\/a><\/li>\n \t<li><a href=\"#exportyourbookfiles\">Exporting your Book Files<\/a><\/li>\n \t<li><a href=\"#upgradeyourbookfiles\">Upgrade your Book Files<\/a><\/li>\n \t<li><a href=\"#webdistributionofexportedfiles\">Web Distribution of Exported Files<\/a>&nbsp;[PressbooksEDU feature]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h1><a id=\"choosetherightformat\" href=\"\"><\/a>Choosing the Right Format<\/h1>\nDepending on how you plan to publish, you will need to choose an export format for your book. In addition your Pressbooks webbook, you can choose four different export file formats:\n<ul>\n \t<li><strong>Print PDF:<\/strong> Export a print PDF file if you plan to publish your book in print format. This file meets the requirements of printers and print-on-demand services.<\/li>\n \t<li><strong>Digital PDF:<\/strong> Export and download the digital PDF instead if you do not plan on printing the file. These can be used online and can contain hyperlinks for easier navigation.<\/li>\n \t<li><strong>EPUB:<\/strong> Export EPUBs to submit to any popular ebook distributor except Amazon KDP. This is the file you\u2019d use to submit your ebook to Kobo, Nook, iBooks, and others.<\/li>\n \t<li><strong>MOBI:<\/strong> Export a MOBI file to submit your ebook to Amazon KDP.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1><a id=\"selectcontentforexport\" href=\"\"><\/a>Select Content for Export<\/h1>\nNot all content in your book in Pressbooks has to be included in your exported files. This is a convenient feature for users who are creating books for several formats and only want certain content and a specific format.\n\nYou can decide which chapters, front matter, and back matter you\u2019d like to be included in your exported files from the <strong>Organize<\/strong> page:\n<ol>\n \t<li>Go to <strong>Organize<\/strong> from the left sidebar menu in Pressbooks.<\/li>\n \t<li>Find the \u201cShow in Exports\u201d column at the top of a section.<\/li>\n \t<li>Select the box in this column for each chapter you want in your exported files.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nChapters should be selected by default. You can tell that a chapter has been selected to Show in Exports when a checkmark appears. This includes EPUB 3, XHTML, HTMLBook, OpenDocument, Pressbooks XML, and WordPress XML.\n<div class=\"textbox\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> Pressbooks cannot offer technical support for issues with your files in any of the formats still in beta testing.<\/div>\n&nbsp;\n\nTo view how changes you have made will affect your book (like edits to chapters or changing your book theme), you must export and download a new set of files. When successfully exported, the files will appear underneath \u201cLatest Exports.\u201d Pressbooks keeps the last 3 files exported of each format.\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.com\/app\/uploads\/sites\/10270\/2019\/04\/Screen-Shot-2019-02-08-at-2.19.24-PM.png\"><img class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-209\" src=\"https:\/\/openbook.ums.edu.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/183\/2024\/09\/Screen-Shot-2019-02-08-at-2.19.24-PM.png\" alt=\"Exported files in the Latest Exports section\" width=\"1915\" height=\"916\"><\/a>\n<h2>Download, delete, or pin exported files<\/h2>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.com\/app\/uploads\/sites\/132975\/2021\/01\/Screen-Shot-2021-02-09-at-12.51.09-PM.png\"><img class=\"alignnone wp-image-210 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/openbook.ums.edu.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/183\/2024\/09\/Screen-Shot-2021-02-09-at-12.51.09-PM-1024x257.png\" alt=\"The Latest Exports menu\" width=\"1024\" height=\"257\"><\/a>\n\n<strong>Download:<\/strong> To download an exported file, hover over the file name and click the \u201cDownload\u201d link that appears.\n\n<strong>Delete:<\/strong> To delete an exported file, hover over the file name and click the \u201cDelete\u201d link that appears.\n\nYou can also delete files in bulk by following these steps:\n<ol>\n \t<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ol>\n \t<li>Select the box to the left of the files you\u2019d like to delete, or select the box at the top left of the table to select all files for deletion<\/li>\n \t<li>Click the <strong>Bulk Actions<\/strong> dropdown menu at the top or bottom of the table and select <strong>Delete.<\/strong><\/li>\n \t<li>Click <strong>Apply.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<strong>Pin:<\/strong> You can pin a file in your Latest Exports table to prevent the file from being deleted and allow you to find it more quickly in the future.&nbsp;To do so, select the box in the \u201cPin\u201d column for the file you wish to save.\n\nYou can save up to 5 files, and up to 3 of one file type. If you try to pin a 6th file, you\u2019ll receive an error message.&nbsp;If you\u2019ve pinned three files of a given export type and then try to export a new file of that format, you\u2019ll see an error message asking you to deselect one of your pinned files before attempting to export again.\n\n<strong>Adjust Table Settings:<\/strong> By default, the Export table will show you all the files you\u2019ve exported. If you\u2019d rather your files display in a shorter table with navigable pages, you can adjust the table settings to display fewer rows with the <strong>Screen Options<\/strong> setting available at the top of the page.\n\n<strong>Sort:<\/strong> You can organize your files by file name, format, size, pinned status, or date by clicking the links for those terms available at the top or bottom of the table.\n\n&nbsp;\n<h1><a id=\"upgradeyourbookfiles\" href=\"\"><\/a>Upgrade Your Book Files<\/h1>\n<div class=\"textbox\">\n\nAll exported books include a Pressbooks promotional watermark before you upgrade. To learn more about how to upgrade, remove the watermark, and the benefits you will receive, <a href=\"http:\/\/draftguide.pressbooks.com\/chapter\/upgrade\/\">read our chapter on How to Upgrade your Pressbooks.com book.<\/a>\n\nOnce you upgrade, you can still re-export your files. The upgrade is permanent for each book you upgrade and will apply to all future exports of the same book.\n\n<\/div>\n<h1><a id=\"webdistributionofexportedfiles\" href=\"\"><\/a>Web Distribution of Exported Files<\/h1>\nIf you are creating your book on a PressbooksEDU network, you also have the option to enable public downloads of your exported book files directly from your webbook homepage.\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.com\/app\/uploads\/sites\/10270\/2019\/04\/Screen-Shot-2019-04-02-at-4.14.07-PM.png\"><img class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-211\" src=\"https:\/\/openbook.ums.edu.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/183\/2024\/09\/Screen-Shot-2019-04-02-at-4.14.07-PM.png\" alt=\"EPUB and Digital PDF downloads available on a public webbook\" width=\"1528\" height=\"900\"><\/a>\n\nTo enable public downloads on your book, follow these steps:\n<ol>\n \t<li>Go to <strong>Settings &gt; Sharing &amp; Privacy<\/strong> from the left sidebar menu in Pressbooks.<\/li>\n \t<li>Find the setting titled \u201cShare Latest Export Files\u201d.<\/li>\n \t<li>Select the following option: \u201cYes. If you try to pin a 6th file, you\u2019ll receive an error message.&nbsp;If you\u2019ve pinned three files of a given export type and then try to export a new file of that format, you\u2019ll see an error message asking you to deselect one of your pinned files before attempting to export again.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adjust Table Settings:<\/strong> By default, the Export table will show you all the files you\u2019ve exported. If you\u2019d rather your files display in a shorter table with navigable pages, you can adjust the table settings to display fewer rows with the <strong>Screen Options<\/strong> setting available at the top of the page.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sort:<\/strong> You can organize your files by file name, format, size, pinned status, or date by clicking the links for those terms available at the top or bottom of the table.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><a id=\"upgradeyourbookfiles\" href=\"\"><\/a>Upgrade Your Book Files<\/h1>\n<div class=\"textbox\">\n<p>All exported books include a Pressbooks promotional watermark before you upgrade. To learn more about how to upgrade, remove the watermark, and the benefits you will receive, <a href=\"http:\/\/draftguide.pressbooks.com\/chapter\/upgrade\/\">read our chapter on How to Upgrade your Pressbooks.com book.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once you upgrade, you can still re-export your files.
