Each of these is made up of standard types of content.\u00a0Pressbooks follows the Chicago Manual of Style conventions, which lists the order of a book as follows:\n<h4><\/h4>\n<div class=\"textbox\">\n<h4>Front Matter<\/h4>\nBook half title\nSeries title, frontispiece or blank\nTitle page\nCopyright Page\nDedication\nEpigraph\n(Table of) Contents\n(List of) Illustrations\n(List of) Tables\nForeword\nPreface\nAcknowledgments (if not part of preface)\nIntroduction (if not part of text)\nAbbreviations (if not in back matter)\nChronology (if not in back matter)\n\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"textbox\">\n<h4>Text<\/h4>\nFirst text page (Introduction or Chapter 1)\n<em>or<\/em>\nSecond half title or first part title\nFirst text page\nSubsequent part titles and chapters\n\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"textbox\">\n<h4>Back Matter<\/h4>\nAcknowledgements (if not in front matter)\nAppendix (or first, if more than one)\nSecond and subsequent appendixes\nChronology (if not in front matter)\nAbbreviations (if not in front matter)\nNotes\nGlossary\nBibliography or References\n(List of) Contributors\nIllustration Credits (if not in captions or elsewhere)\nIndex(es)\n\n<\/div>\n<h3>Why does this matter?<\/h3>\nNow obviously, not every book will have all of those parts! In fact, many will only have a few\u00a0basic ones, like a title page and a copyright page. However, if you do choose to add extras, it is important to know the\u00a0order in which they will appear.\n<h4>Front Matter<\/h4>\nPressbooks automatically creates the following pages:\n<ul>\n \t<li>Title page (and in PDF, Half-title page)<\/li>\n \t<li>Copyright page<\/li>\n \t<li>Table of contents (optional in PDF, required in EPUB\/MOBI)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nIf you then choose to add, for example, an epigraph and a dedication, your front matter might look like this:\n\n[caption id=\"attachment_1331\" align=\"aligncenter\" width=\"1024\"]<a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10270\/2013\/12\/parts1.png\"><img class=\"size-large wp-image-115\" src=\"https:\/\/openbook.ums.edu.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/183\/2018\/07\/parts1-1024x150.png\" alt=\"Front Matter\" width=\"1024\" height=\"150\"><\/a> Front Matter[\/caption]\n\nIf these two section have been properly tagged as an epigraph and dedication (for more on this see our chapter on <a href=\"\/\/chapter\/front-matter\/\">Front Matter<\/a>) and you export them, you will see that their order has been reversed. This is because the Chicago Manual of Style order overrides the order in which you see your front matter in the \"Organize\" window.
